lyrics
From others worlds, from other ways,
Two lovers find themselves again.
Two years before,
He left for war,
And he changed.
So she began, said through her tears,
“You’re not the boy of yesteryear,
Your battle scars,
Your looks, so hard,
Are full of fear.
“But my love, I still remember,
When upon the village fête,
You did take me from the dancing
To a gleaming mountain lake.
“And we laid among the rushes.
There you gave your love to me,
By the lake that’s near the river,
Where the gentle salmon leap.”
And he replied, “Don’t speak of loss,
Of sacrifice, of innocence.
That happy boy,
Is long destroyed,
As he was.
“Hear me now, I speak of violence,
Of a world of misery,
Where a friend is soon a funeral,
The unknown an enemy,
“When all words are killing orders,
And all tears are cried in pain,
There the memory of a lover,
Is the only thing that’s sane.
“Yes my love, I still remember,
O’ that blessed village fête,
As I slept there in the trenches,
It was you that kept me safe.
“When we laid among the rushes.
There you gave your love to me,
By the lake that’s near the river,
Where the gentle salmon leap.”
So they ventured to the mountains,
Left that boy and girl behind.
As a man and as a woman,
They found joy a second time.
When they laid among the rushes,
There they found their love complete,
By the lake that’s near the river,
Where the gentle salmon leap.

This song is really clever musically, it's got a powerful story and I really enjoy how it flows together. The additional instrumentation really makes it click & it's thoroughly satisfying. ardansk
